A little hand-sewing project you can carry anywhere. English paper piecing is one of the gentlest ways into patchwork — no machine, no rush, just hexies and a quiet half hour here and there. This one finishes as a sweet clasp purse, perfect for lipsticks, cards, coins or a stitching kit of its own.

We put these kits together here in the shop, cutting the squares from fabrics we love. Each release uses a different range, so have a look at the photos to see what's in the kit at the moment.

What's in the kit

  • Hexagon Clasp Purse pattern by Kristyne Czepuryk of Pretty by Hand
  • Rose gold metal clasp, 6.5 x 13.5cm, with paper string for installation
  • 60 squares cut 2in, in a scrappy mix
  • One fat eighth for the lining
  • 60 x 3/4in hexagon English paper piecing papers

Finished size: 12 x 18cm (4 3/4in x 7in)

You'll also need: thread, a hand-sewing needle, small scissors, fabric glue pen or basting thread, and a little patience with the clasp — it's the fiddliest bit and the most satisfying.

Fabric placement will vary from kit to kit, which is half the fun.
